Dear Readers,

I love this time of year. The fall offers spectacular weather and the summer crowds have long returned home. It is the perfect time to try some of the many restaurants that make Santa Barbara a favorite destination spot. To work up an appetite, turn to page 17 and read about some of the area’s best restaurants.

Or, maybe you are in the mood to head for a new destination spot. On page 35, see how a daytrip that is a 20-minute drive away can make you feel like you have had a long weekend of rest and relaxation.

In this issue, I want to introduce you to a variety of people. Tinta Latina’s Entrepreneur of the Month is Alberto Mastrangelo, a highly successful restaurateur. On page 10, Alberto shares with us his typical day. Meet inspirational teenager Kovena Avila on page 11. This go-getter overcame many obstacles to win the title of Miss Santa Barbara County. And keeping in the theme of beauty, turn to page 25 for some broad brushstrokes on the Belles Artes program. Looking toward the future, on page 12 an interview with David Edelman is about the role of the Internet in the next five years.

We haven’t forgotten our popular fashion feature—it is on page 31. You’ll also find beauty products of local origin on page 40. Yes, health is more important than outer beauty; see how a group of Cottage Hospital employees is fundraising toward the hospital’s remodel on page 15. On page 43, Virginia Moreno offers relationship tips. Whether your marriage is in the honeymoon phase or on the rocks, read the interview with attorney Anna Karczag on page 34 regarding divorce. It is not often you receive advice of this high value for free. Also, you will find food for thought on page 14 where there is a “should we or shouldn’t we” discussion in regards to celebrating Columbus Day.

Finally, this issue of Tinta Latina is dedicated to Loba, my dog who recently died. Loba was by my side when I started this magazine and always was a calming influence—much needed in the publishing world. As many of you know, losing a pet is losing a member of the family. Boy, I miss her.

Thanks for giving us your time, loyalty and opinions about Tinta Latina.
